8 Iconic Halloween Episodes from Beloved Black Sitcoms

Welcome to my holiday Black sitcom series! As we approach holiday season, I'm diving into some of my favorite classic Black sitcoms to keep the vibes light, fun, and full of nostalgia. Black sitcoms are such a fun way for me to decompress. I find myself battling stress, anxiety, and low-mood quite a bit this time of year, and I’m always thinking about ways to fight back against it!

Whether it’s the nostalgia of Living Single or the laughs from Fresh Prince, these shows just feel like home. Watching them is a light form of self-care for me, and it really iss like hanging out with old friends, laughing, and letting the stress melt away.

Halloween is a time for candy, costumes, and a good scare, and what better way to celebrate than with some classic Black sitcom episodes? These Halloween episodes combine humor and a touch of spooky fun, making them perfect for getting into the Hallo ween spirit. Here’s a roundup of my personal favorite Halloween episodes from our beloved Black sitcoms to add to your watchlist!

1. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - "Hex And The Single Guy"

Remember when Hillary saw the spiritualist to talk to Trevor? And then Will and Uncle Phil accuse the person of being a fraud?

2. Family Matters - "Dark and Stormy Night"

Remember when the Winslows and Steve Urkel are stuck inside during a big storm and they pass the time by telling a spooky story. The whole thing takes place in a creepy castle with some odd, funny, and eerie twists! This is a really fun episode.

3. Martin - "Boo's in the House"

This is the episode where, on Halloween, Martin and the crew check out what could be his new house, but find it to be…a bit creepy.

4. Living Single - "Trick Or Trust"

Remember the episode where the friend group decides to throw a Halloween party because Max’s ex is in town and she’s feeling kind of down? Yeah, things got a bit out of hand in this one lol.

5. A Different World - "The Little Mister"

In this episode, a Halloween costume party gets Dwayne and Whitley talking about the differences between men and women, and next thing you know, Dwayne has this wild dream where gender roles in politics are flipped. Whitley becomes Jill Blinton, the sax-playing presidential candidate, and Dwayne’s her husband, Hilliard.

6. Everybody Hates Chris - "Everybody Hates Halloween"

Ugh, I love this show so much!! In this episode, Chris faces the ups and down of Halloween with his family, leading to a series of hilarious, strange events. This episode captures the essence of Halloween — the good, the bad, and the hilariously awkward.

7. Black-ish - "The Halloween Episode"

In this episode, Dre goes all out for Halloween, but his plans quickly spiral into chaos. This one is definitely a Black-ish classic!!
